Raising Funds for the Bunny Building

Journal Entry: Sat Jun 14, 2008, 9:38 AM
June 14

The temperature is cranking up and the poor bunnies at Magic Happens Rabbit Rescue are feeling the heat. Some of them are lucky enough to be in air conditioned foster homes (I have two dwarfs at my place right now), but most have to stay in the main yard. Although they have shade, fans, and ice bottles, it's still very uncomfortable for them. We have lost a few to heat stroke in summers past. There is a plan to build an air conditioned building for them, but summer is here and we still don't have enough money for it. The cost for the building is going to be $3000 plus a bit more for the shelving and A/C unit. We currently have $1700 in the building fund. We started raising the money last November when the rescue founder, Wendy, and her husband bought their first house which has a backyard big enough for the building. We are doing everything we can to raise the rest of the money ASAP.

If you would like to help, you can donate money, or buy something from our fundraisers. In addition several items were donated from a petstore that recently closed down. We didn't have use for all of them so Wendy is selling them on eBay. All the supplies are for small animals, but there are some books about dogs, cats, birds, horses, etc. as well. Shop here: [link] More items will be added soon, so check back.

I've discounted my jewelry for sale and am donating all the money to the rescue. The items for sale are listed below. I'm also taking commissions. Costs for commissions are $3 for earrings, $5 for bracelets/anklets, and $10 for necklaces. $1 for shipping in USA (cost outside US to be determined) and $3 commission fee (not donated to rescue) will also be added. If you want something that is a near copy of something I've already done, so I don't have to create a design or buy any new supplies, the commission fee will be dropped. Please note that some of my works will have to be one of a kind since I got some of my supplies from other people and don't know where to buy more of them.

Length: 19.5 inches Price: $7.00

Necklace Length: 17 inches
Bracelet Length: 8 inches Price: $10.00

Length: 16 inches Price: $5.00

Length: 15 inches Price: $5.00

If you would like a 8x10 print (from Walgreens) of one of my photos, the charge will be $10. All the money minus shipping and printing costs will be donated to the building fund.

PS I got my new computer this week. It's a Dell Inspiron 1520 in Midnight Blue with Windows XP of course. I got Adobe Photoshop Elements on it. Haven't tried it out yet, but I'm sure I'll be cranking out the deviations soon. I haven't looked into a new camera yet. That's next though. In case you didn't read my previous journal, I'm buying all this new stuff because my apartment was robbed. I did need a new computer anyway though. Mine was ancient. Circa 2003. ;)

Robbed!

Journal Entry: Sat Apr 19, 2008, 7:16 PM
April 19

Some fiend broke into my place while I was at work last Wednesday. He broke my door frame (door was bolted shut) and stole my laptop, external dvd burner, dvd player for my tv, and digital camera. I lost all my photos from mid February on. This included my trip to High Island and Port Bolivar. Well my dad has a copy of my burning firehouse restaurant photos since he thought they were cool and I emailed them to him. Oh and my sister has a copy of my picture of Raising Cane II (mascot of Raising Cane's Chicken fingers) that I took at LSU's Vet School open house and emailed to her. My latest photos which were still on my camera were taken from the Mississippi River levee. The river is extra high this year (10 year flood cycle) and I took some photos with the water above the level of the cars driving on the road on the other side of the levee.

I also lost my birding database, which I really should have backed up. I mean my computer could have crashed if not for the robbery. I think I can rebuild my life list although I probably won't be able to keep things in the order seen within the same day. That required me to bring a notebook with me every time I went birding anyway and I may just stop doing that. I also lost my year list data which I won't be able to recover.

My binocs (w00t!), tv & vcr (old pieces of crap), cd collection, portable stereo, and practically brand new awesome printer were left behind. Bunnies and aquarium were not harmed. I did not have any expensive jewelry or cash in the house. He didn't bother to riffle through my stuff and so missed all the possible identify theft papers.

My friend is letting me borrow his old computer until I get a new one. My mom said I could borrow her pentax film camera which I haven't used since I went digital. I don't know when I'll get a chance to go to Texas to get it. But when I do, we're going back to High Island and hopefully there will be baby birds to see!

I was already planning on getting a dSLR soon (and new computer, mine was really old and slow) but I'm not sure yet if I want to get a small camera also to replace my Olympus C-765UZ. I just spent my entire tax refund and a bit more on fixing my leaky car up. My A/C was leaking into the outside, my oil pan was leaking onto my carport, my tire was slowly leaking air, and my muffler was leaky making my car noisy and scaring birds away. But I am getting a roommate and a raise next month so new computer and camera are not too far away.

Been A While

Journal Entry: Sat Jan 12, 2008, 11:25 AM
January 12

I haven't been on deviantART much lately. I hope everybody had a good holiday. I've been busy at my new job. I've also been helping my parents get ready to put their house up on the market and helping my friend with her rabbit rescue. Today I'm driving to Texas to help my parents this weekend (I have Monday off work) and deliver a bunny for adoption.

Thanks to everyone who added Holiday Kiwi to their favorites. Sorry I couldn't thank you all individually.

I got a job and a bunny!

October 21

I have been very busy lately. I finally got a job with Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries! I start on November 5th. I'm so excited and kind of nervous. This is my first career type job. I better not screw up. I found a great townhouse to rent. It's nice and spacious and has a little fenced yard for me to garden and my bunnies to run around in. It's in a great neighborhood and has a big kitchen. Now I just need to move in and find a roommate.

PS Forgot to mention that the dust or whatever on my camera sensor magically disappeared. I guess it fell off or something. Glad I didn't need to pay to get it cleaned. I was getting tired of erasing it in Print Shop Pro.

November 4

I've been settling into my new townhouse nicely. Still no roommate, but I got a new bunnymate. I adopted Stella, a young dutch mix, from MHRR to bond with my Jerry. They get along great. Here's a photo I took their first evening together.

My first day of work is tomorrow. I'm so nervous and so excited at the same time!

Pimp My Calendar

I bought a copy of my calendar. Woot! It's awesome! Now I know what I'm getting all my relatives for x-mas. :giggle:

Please respond to my polls:
What kind of calendar should I make?
What do you want to see more of in my gallery?
