Backyard Lightning I

Description

I've been waiting for a good opportunity to try lightning photography. Tonight I heard lots of thunder and peaked outside and saw gorgeous cloud-to-cloud lighting all around.

I read somewhere that you should just click over and over again and hope you catch something in frame. Well that wasn't working for me so I tried holding the shutter button down halfway and quickly pressing it the rest of the way as soon as I saw a flash of light. Eventually the lighting frequency slowed and my arm got tired and the mosquitoes found me so I went in. I got 4 shots with lightning in frame. Two I had to throw out because of double/triple images because I have a crappy tripod.

This one was way over exposed, but I tried to correct it in Photoshop.

cool! check out some of my lightning pics!

The best thing to do to get lightning is: use a tripod, and set to long exposure (bulb is nice).
For my 560uz, if I take a long exposure picture, the camera has to load afterward, so if I take a 15 second exposure, then my camera has to load for 15 seconds, which I find very annoying because I miss a lot of lightning during that time.
